Kings College Hospital, London

Valley Healthcare was approached by Kings College Hospital for a solution for efficient patients notes storage. Previous methods of notes storage were proving cumbersome, including larger trolleys full of drop files stored in the ward corridors. These trolleys were failing to meet modern infection control standards and were creating a space problem!

We enjoyed working with the staff at Kings College hospital at ward level, engaging with them to understand the constraints of their current systems, and working with them to identify what would be needed from a modern and effective patient notes storage system. Key considerations included the need for suitable levels of privacy and protection; dust-holes to allow dust to pass through dispensers and avoid ‘dust-traps’; and a design that was easy to clean and most importantly, robust enough to withstand long-term use in the busy ward environments.

From this project, the tough new plastic notes storage range was born, consisting of three variants – a smaller wall-mounted unit for side rooms; a bed-end notes holder that enabled notes to be kept attached to the patients bed; and a larger wall-mounted unit with a hinged lid that could house larger files in corridors or near to reception areas. You can view the range here.

The result was a solution that was well received by Kings College Hospital, and that was tough, durable and infection-control friendly. The problem of effective and efficient notes storage was solved!
